K. Bozumbaev: Kazakhstan’s refineries increase production volumes

Today’s meeting of the Government chaired by Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev covered the results of socio-economic development for the six months of 2018

Minister of Energy Kanat Bozumbaev reported that in the first half of 2018, the main indicators in the fuel and energy sector exhibit positive a positive growth trend.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the volume of oil and condensate production amounted to 45.2 million tonnes, which shows an increase of 6.2% compared to the same period last year.

Oil extraction on three major projects amounted to 27.2 million tonnes: Kashagan production reached 6.2 million tonnes (177.1%), Tengiz – 14.7 million tonnes (100.7%), Karachaganak – 6.3 million tonnes (100%), Minister of Energy K. Bozumbaev said.

Exports of oil amounted to 36.5 million tonnes or 105.8% compared to last year. The volume of oil processing stopped at the level of 7.7 million tonnes of oil, showing an increase of 5%. Thus, the volume of production of petroleum products at the three refineries amounted to 5.4 million tonnes, the indicators improved by 1.5%.

In general, the situation on the market of petroleum products is stable and there is no deficit of fuel and lubricants. Fuel surplus is sufficient to cover the needs of the domestic market in the monthly amount of gasoline – 351 thousand tonnes, diesel fuel 255 thousand tonnes, which is enough for a month, K. Bozumbayev said.

For the spring sowing campaign, agricultural producers received 375 thousand tonnes (through the Atyrau Refinery – 92.3 thousand tonnes, Pavlodar refinery – 195.6 thousand tonnes and Shymkent refinery 87.1 thousand tonnes).

The volume of gas production amounted to 28.1 billion cubic meters, growth for the first half of the year was 6.4%.

Gas exports amounted to 10.7 bcm, which is 35.4% more than in the previous year. 1.5 million tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas were produced, which is 4.8% more, K. Bozumbaev stressed.

Petroleum bitumen production amounted to 375 thousand tonnes (104% of the plan for 2018), which is 30% more than it was last year in the first half. The export of bitumen amounted to 23.8 thousand tonnes, which is 19% higher than the norm for 2017.

During the six months of 2018, 37 million tonnes of coal were delivered to the domestic market.

Electricity generation amounted to 54.5 billion kWh, an increase of 7.3%. The volume of coal production (excluding coal concentrate) amounted to 52 million tonnes, showing an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period last year.
