Jeenbekov congratulates PM Modi, Indian people on Republic Day

Bishkek Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India on India’s national holiday, Republic Day, his press service said Sunday.

“It is especially pleasant to note that today the Kyrgyz-Indian relations have reached a new strategic level of partnership, which was facilitated by the painstaking work of the sides.

I am convinced this partnership contributes to the progressive development of cooperation and search for new directions, strengthening of effective mechanisms for further promotion of bilateral cooperation,” the letter of congratulations says.

The Kyrgyz leader wished Modi health and success in his state activity, and peace and prosperity to the friendly people of India.

Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on Jan.26, 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.

26 January was chosen as the Republic day because it was on this day in 1929 when Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by the British Regime.
