ITALIAN INVESTORS IMPLEMENTED FIRST RES PROJECT IN AKTOBE RGN
The first foreign wind farm for Kazakhstan and the first project in the region in the sphere of renewable energy sources was implemented by Italian investors in Aktobe region. The ceremony of launching the facility was attended by Ambassador of Italy to Kazakhstan, Pasquale D’Avino, Governor of Aktobe region Ondassyn Urazalin, Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KAZAKH INVEST Birzhan Kaneshev, as well as Executive Vice President of Eni Company for the Central Asian region Luka Vinyati.
The construction of the 48 MW wind farm started last December. About 200 GW/h are planned to be generated here annually. The project cost is about $ 100 million. According to experts, the implementation of the project will reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by more than 172 thousand tons per year.
KAZAKH INVEST, together with the Governor’s Office, provided comprehensive assistance to the investor in the process of passing licensing procedures, coordination with the relevant state authorities, as well as in considering the investment site for the implementation of the second phase of the wind park’s construction project. Our main task is to create comfortable conditions for doing business in Kazakhstan. This will allow not only to attract new investors to priority sectors of the economy, but also to stimulate our old investors to reinvest in new industries, Birzhan Kaneshev said.
According to the company representatives, during the construction period, 480 employees and 14 Kazakhstan construction companies were involved. In addition, it is planned to create up to 15 new highly qualified jobs.
In the next few years, the company intends to implement several projects in the field of renewable energy in Kazakhstan. So, in September this year, Eni won an auction for an additional 48 MW for the project to expand the launched wind farm, and in November, the investors were recognized as the winner of the 50 MW auction for the project for the construction of a solar power station in Turkestan region. Project launch is planned in the coming years.
In the renewable energy sector, Eni is taking its first steps in Kazakhstan. This is the first renewable energy project in Aktobe region, as well as the world’s first wind farm of our company. We are fully committed to the idea of developing renewable energy, and this becomes clear from the following figures: our 4-year plan provides for 1.4 billion euros of investments during 2019-2022 in the development of renewable energy projects around the world. By 2022, we plan to achieve the target installed capacity of 1.6 GW, and by 2025 to bring this figure to 5 GW, Luca Vignati said.
Following the event, Birzhan Kaneshev met with Italian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Pasquale D’Avino, where they discussed the possibility of attracting Italian investors in the development of mechanical engineering, agribusiness, light industry in Kazakhstan.
