The Ministry of Energy of Iran is interested in the construction of hydropower plants in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Iran Turdakun Sydykov met on Monday with Energy Minister of Iran Ali-Akbar Mehrabian.
During the meeting, Sydykov informed the Iranian minister about the hydropower potential of Kyrgyzstan and noted that President Sadyr Zhaparov pays special attention to the development of renewable clean energy sources, including the construction of hydropower plants.
The Kyrgyz ambassador handed over for consideration and study by the Iranian side a number of investment projects, including the construction of medium and small HPPs in regions of Kyrgyzstan.
“Minister of Energy of Iran Ali-Akbar Mehrabian expressed the readiness of the Iranian side to cooperate with Kyrgyzstan in the field of hydropower and rational use of water resources. The minister noted that Iranian companies have extensive experience in the construction of hydropower plants both in Iran and abroad,” the report said.
As a result of the meeting, the sides agreed to arrange a visit for representatives of Kyrgyzstan to specialized companies of Iran in order to familiarize with the activities, experience and their potential, after which they will begin consultations and negotiations on the participation of Iran in investment projects of construction of hydropower facilities in the Kyrgyz Republic.
