International Conference on Nuclear Security: Commitments and Actions of the IAEA is being held in Vienna
The International Conference on Nuclear Security: Commitments and Actionsof the International Atomic Energy Agency was opened on Dec.5, 2016 in Vienna.
This is the second Conference on nuclear security which is orginised by the IAEA every three years. The event was attended by the delegation of the Agency’s 168 member states, including 50 delegations at the ministerial level.
The Kazakh delegation, which included representatives of the Ministry of Energy and the National Nuclear Center, headed by the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Kairat Sarybay.
The conference began with a plenary session of the ministerial segment and will continue by scientific and technical sessions on various topics related to the issues of nuclear safety. The main event in the plenary session of the ministerial segment will be a general discussion and adoption of the Ministerial Declaration.
The statement of the head of the Kazakh delegation reflected the achievements of our country in the field of nuclear non-proliferation, effective cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IAEA in strengthening nuclear security. The participants attention was drawn to initiatives of the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev announced at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly and consolidated in the Manifesto The World. The 21st century. The participants were also informed about the establishment of the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium Bank in Kazakhstan that is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2017.
The Conference on Nuclear Security will continue until 9 December.
