In the first quarter of 2023, the countries of the European Union (EU) imported 4 million 556,486 thousand tons of oil from Azerbaijan, by 3.6% less than in the same period last year. The cost of oil imported by EU countries from Azerbaijan in January-March is estimated at 2 billion 842,017 million euros (a decline of 8.8%), the monthly report of the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat). In March 2023, EU countries imported 1 million 366.760 thousand tons of oil from Azerbaijan (a decline of 3.7% by March 2022) for 845.609 million euros (a decline of 18.5%). Among the EU countries, the top 5 importers of oil from Azerbaijan in the first quarter included: Italy – 2 million 209.47 thousand tons (a decline of 19.6%) by 1 billion 364.626 million euros (a decline of 24.7%), Spain – 802.276 thousand tons (an increase of 2.7 times) by 504.119 million euros (an increase in 2.7 times), Czech Republic – 523,727 thousand tons (1.6 times growth) by 329,298 million euros (1.7 times growth), Germany – 243,194 thousand tons (1.7 times decline) by 150,209 million euros (1.8 times decline) and Portugal – 218,992 thousand tons (2.6 times decline) by 137.764 million euros (2.8 times decline). According to Eurostat, in 2022, EU countries imported 19 million 770,297 thousand tons of oil from Azerbaijan (a decline of 1% from 2021) for 15 billion 128.576 million euros (an increase of 1.7 times or 66.9%).
