In Pavlodar region Bakytzhan Sagintayev familiarizes with modernization of the world’s largest mining and processing enterprise
Bakytzhan Sagintayev got acquainted with the schedule of works aimed at bringing the company to its designed capacity. Chairman of the Board of Kaz Minerals PLC O. Novachuk reported that with reaching the designed capacity in 2017 at Bozshakol MPE annually 100 thousand tons of copper in cathode equivalent will be produced.
As part of the project, 1500 jobs were created. With the planned number of jobs, the productivity is 15 times higher than in the existing copper-mining enterprises in Kazakhstan. The plant uses advanced equipment and technologies, which allowed achieving a high level of automation and digitalization, in accordance with international standards in the industry.
The expansion of the project is in line with the objectives set by the Head of State in the Address “Third Modernization of Kazakhstan: Global Competitiveness” on technological modernization, raising labor productivity through the transfer of new technologies and increasing competitiveness.
The copper deposit of Bozshakol, located near the Tort-Kuduk village of the Pavlodar region, is one of the largest undeveloped deposits in the world. Construction of the mine began in 2012. On December 11, 2015 start and adjustment operations were started at Bozshakol. In February 2016, the first copper concentrate was produced.
The annual processing of ore will be 30 million tons. On average, for forty years the annual copper production in the concentrate will be 75,000 tons. The ore body of the Bozshakol deposit has a valuable passing production of 5.26 million ounces of gold (production volume is 120,000 ounces per year) and 57,000 tons of molybdenum.
