Historians discussed issue of modernization of public conscience

More than 500 famous historians of the country took part in this event in order to determine the main steps for implementation of the program document “Looking towards Future: Modernization of Public Conscience” presented by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

To work of the Congress a welcoming letter on behalf of the Head of the Office of the President of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the National Commission for the Implementation of the Program for Modernization of Public Conscience under the President of Kazakhstan, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov was read. A special role of the scientific forum of historians of the country was noted, which “must be at the forefront of research and educational work to preserve and develop the national code that connects the spiritual foundations of society, its past, present and future”.

Chairman of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science Bolatbek Abdrasilov during the speech noted that it is necessary not only to support new scientific research, but also to promote greater availability of historical materials.

“Every scientist, every historian should consider it a great honor to contribute to the writing of the history of Kazakhstan. To this end, the Ministry plans to strengthen the departments of historical disciplines, review the rules for admission to the magistracy and doctoral studies. We must strengthen the scientific component. We offer proposals for the development of a comprehensive program on historical sciences and archeology,” B. Abdrassilov summed up.

In his report on the theme “Role of Historical Science in Context of Modernization of Public Conscience”, Rector of ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov, Chairman of the National Congress of Historians Yerlan Sydykov announced a number of proposals directly relating to the main directions identified in the article of the Head of State.

“We want to invite regional universities and colleges to ensure that students of humanitarian specialties take an active part in the work of folklore, historical, ethnographic and archaeological expeditions in the summer. Involvement of students in expeditions will allow young people to join the national history and culture. A young man who once touched living history and culture will always love and respect his Fatherland. That is why at our Congress we will present the joint project “Information-cognitive expedition “Tugan Zher Tarkhy”, Ye. Sydykov informed.

The first expedition has already started in a few weeks in Turgay region to restore the remains of Keyky Batyr.

In the report, a proposal to develop regional encyclopedias was made, including Astana and Almaty on a unified concept, the publication of a monograph on the national liberation movement of the Kazakh people.

As Chairman of the expert council of “Tugan Zher” Yerlan Sydykov announced the proposal to implement the project “Modern Kazakhstan culture in global world” in 6 languages of the world in key cultural areas, having established a series of scientific reports in 6 languages under the general title: “History of Kazakhstan is a heritage of the Great steppe”.

Within the framework of the event, the first books from the series “Tugan Zher Tarikhy” were presented: “Astana: past and present” by Ziyabek Kabuldinov and “Sarzhal” Beken Temirov.

As a result of the Congress, a resolution was adopted. The participants of the Congress agreed on a common scientific and practical-oriented position in understanding the main directions for the practical implementation of the tasks of modernization of public conscience, spiritual revival of the nation, strengthening of local history work, development and improvement of the national historical science and education, and development of recommendations for their further development.
