Head of the CIS Observer Mission assesses Kazakhstan’s Senate elections
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kairat Abdrakhmanov held a meeting with First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Viktor Guminsky, who arrived in Astana as the Head of the CIS election observation mission for the election of deputies for Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In the course of conversation, K. Abdrakhmanov expressed gratitude for monitoring the election campaign in Kazakhstan at a top professional level. He noted that many recommendations voiced by the CIS Mission following the monitoring of previous elections are taken into account in organizing the electoral process in the country.
V. Guminsky in turn, highly praised the level of organizational preparation for Parliamentary elections in all regions of the country. It was noted that the elections sparked keen interest among the Commonwealth member states, which is confirmed by the large number of participating international observers � 106 of 177 observers are representatives of the CIS Mission.
Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee noted that the elections were held in accordance with the Constitution and electoral legislation of the country, corresponded to the generally recognized norms of democracy, were free and open.
In the course of the meeting, parties noted the importance of the Kazakhstan President’s initiative on adapting CIS to modern realities, supported by his counterparts � leaders of the CIS countries. The interlocutors also discussed the state and prospects for further cooperation within the integration space. As well as activities within the Commonwealth, including the upcoming meeting of key CIS bodies � the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of State, scheduled for October 10-11, 2017 in Sochi.
