The Astana Economic Forum is an annual significant event in the Eurasian space. Every year, world leaders, leading international experts, scientists, political and public figures, representatives of various financial institutions and business communities, gather on one site.

Throughout the history of the forum, more than 50 thousand delegates from 150 countries of the world took part in the AEF.

The forum has become an international platform that connects economic thought, idea and practice to find effective solutions in the fight against the main economic and social challenges of our time. The forum has an enormous effect from the attraction of international investors to the exchange of new ideas for the formation of an economic policy agenda in the country and in the world.

History: the creation of AEF is dictated by time

The Astana Economic Forum was initiated by the Head of State. In June 2007, N. Nazarbayev proposed the creation of the Eurasian Club of Scientists to help with the economic integration of the Eurasian community and the development of international economic cooperation. The Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists Association was established on June 27, 2008, by the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning of Kazakhstan and the Economic Research Institute.

For the first time the Forum was held in 2008 and managed to gain the status of one of the most influential international venues for discussing the issues of improving and developing the world economy and financial system.

The purpose of the forum is to create an international, impartial forum where experts can discuss issues of economic development, both separately in the Central Asian region and the entire world space, in the context of changes in the global economy. The creation of such an interactive platform as the Astana Economic Forum was dictated by time. The world economy is undergoing a number of changes and the AEF has become a unified platform, at which the most acute economic and socially important issues are discussed. Moreover, this forum is a practical tool for business, allowing to overcome geographical and information boundaries. Each year, the AEF gathers more than 5000 delegates from 80 countries around the world.

The main themes of the Forum, which were discussed in different years: “Contemporary aspects of economic development in the age of globalization” (2008), “Eurasian economic security in a system of global risks” (2009), “Providing stable growth in a post-crisis period” (2010), A new decade: challenges and outlooks”(2011),”Global economic transformation: challenges and outlooks for development” (2012), “Providing balanced economic growth, using G-Global” (2013), “Risk management in the age of change using G-Global” (2014), “Infrastructure: the driver of steady development” (2015), “The new economic reality: diversification, innovations and the knowledge economy” (2016), and “New energy new economy” (2017).

The 10 largest meetings are behind, at which the opinions of world leaders and real proposals for strengthening the economy not only of Central Asia and the post-Soviet space, but the world in general, were voiced.

An important component of the forum are the proposals to ensure the balanced development of the world economy. AEF’s recommendations are not only paid attention, but also taken into account in the development of concrete actions. The forum began to influence the global processes associated with the adoption of anti-crisis and other measures in the key formats of G8 and G20, ECOSOC, UNCTAD, UNESCAP. The significance of these recommendations was noted both by the experts of the G20 group and by representatives of the leading international organizations the UN, IMF, WB and others.

Restart time

This year the organizers said that the forum will be held in a completely new format. What is it for? “The world is changing, Kazakhstan is being modernized and the forum must meet new challenges,” they say. Moreover, the organizers are sure that the updated forum should become one of the world’s leading summits. For this, the AEF is changed both in its form and content.

All activities will be divided into three blocks: a business program, a strategic session and research. If at the first two stages there will be speakers, then the third will enter the machine. Semantic analysis of large text data will allow to determine with what mood people around the world talk about the challenges, whether they are afraid of the inevitable or see the opportunities for the development of positive scenarios. The sources of data will be publications in the media, academic publications and social networks.

The form and submission of the information will change. If traditional panel sessions were held before, now they will be supplemented with TED talks, innovative presentations, workshops and presentations by visionaries analysts who can foresee the future development of the market or influence it.

For the first time AEF provides a special program for young people. On the basis of leading universities in Astana, a festival of lectures, presentations and meetings with top economists will be held. Our future scientists, inventors, programmers will have an opportunity to meet with leading thinkers, be inspired by new ideas.
