Kazakhstan may again face fuel shortages this spring. The media of the Republic of Kazakhstan report.

According to the Minister of Energy of the Republic Bolat Akchulakov, already now there are interruptions in the availability of fuel associated with an excessively high level of consumption in some regions of the country. In 2023, according to the forecast of the Ministry of Energy, demand for both gasoline and diesel fuel will exceed their supply by about 188,000 tons and 668,000 tons, respectively. Kazakhstan will have to import this amount of fuel and lubricants.

«You can, of course, say: «Well, import, what’s wrong with it? We import so many goods from Russia every year!» It is true, but the price difference has been growing all these years and, for example, as of March 20, according to Global Petrol Prices, the average price of diesel in Russia is 348 tenge per liter compared to 243 tenge in Kazakhstan (1.4 times higher). Under conditions of such a price difference, no gas station will import diesel, on the contrary, the trend of shadow export of fuel from Kazakhstan will increase,» Olzhas Baidildinov, ex-advisor to the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan said.
