First audiologist’s office opens in Kyrgyzstan
Yesterday, Nov.4 the United Family Medicine Center of Oktyabrsky district hosted the opening of the audiologist’s office for children with hearing loss, the press service of the Health Ministry of Kyrgyzstan reported.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, representatives of the Soros Foundation Kyrgyzstan, audiologists, teachers of deaf persons and parents of children with cochlear implants.
The audiologist’s office will be available to all Kyrgyz citizens with cochlear implants. Previously, audio processor tuning services were not available in Kyrgyzstan, and citizens had to travel abroad every 6 months.
In early summer this year, two specialists from Kyrgyzstan were trained at the “Good Hearing Workshop” school in Kiev, where they received all the necessary knowledge, specialized and developing literature, and now began training specialists in Kyrgyzstan.
Training of specialists was organized within the framework of the Access to Education for Children with Hearing Loss program by the Development Children’s Center Public Association with the support of the Soros Foundation Kyrgyzstan.
Audiology is a branch of science that studies hearing, balance, and related disorders. Audiologists treat those with hearing loss and proactively prevent related damage.
