Exhibition “Light of the OTHER. Unveiling the art of Central Asia”
The BritishKazakh Society and the committee of art collectors are proud to present an exhibition unveiling the beauty and mystery of Central Asia. They have selected a number of original works by leading artists from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Among them are Yerbolat Tolepbay, Vladimir Tverdokhebov, Marat Bekeyev, Bobur Ismailov, Saule Suleimenova and Ronald Kleijer whose paintings build an eclectic and diverse body of work inspired by the history, traditions and values of this ancient region.
In an effort to merge past and present, history and contemporary times, the organisers recognise the great contribution and cause of inspiration by the leading, pioneering figures of the area such as Al Harismi , Al Farabi, AlBiruni, Avicenna and Ulugh beg, alongside the great ancient trading route now ‘sparking back to life’ the Great Silk Road, and some of the enthralling cities on its path such as Bukhara and Samarkand.
The paintings in this exhibition range in styles from realism, cubism, impressionism to abstract and while faithful to the significant schools of art, crafts, dance, music and science specific to Central Asia they unveil” hidden delights in the individual interpretation of each artist.
The exhibition will run from 6th to 22nd March, MonSat, 11am5pm.
