Education Ministry: More than 2.5 million children will be covered by health improvement activities during summer vacations
During today’s Government session chaired by Prime Minster Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Minister of Education and Science Yerlan Sagadiyev reported on the organization of health-improving recreation, leisure and occupation of children during the holidays.
As the Minister noted, this year in Kazakhstan, the total number of pupils of grades 1-10 is 2.815 million. It is expected that 15 597 health camps and facilities will operate during the summer holidays.
Summer leisure for children is organized in two directions: health improvement and occupation. 2595 million children or 92.2% of the total number of students in grades 1-10 will be enrolled in camps. Occupation and leisure in summer (sections, circles, clubs, excursions, etc.) will cover 2.557 million, or 91% of schoolchildren, � Y. Sagadiyev said.
To provide financial and material assistance in organizing summer vacations for gifted children and children from socially vulnerable segments of the population, about 4 billion tenge was allocated from local budgets this year.
To coordinate the interdepartmental work on the organization of summer recreation and occupation of children, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan has issued a decree providing for local and central government to take measures to ensure sanitary and epidemiological, fire safety; prevent child injuries, neglect and transience; provide medical care and health improvement. The Roadmap for the development of health-improving rest and occupation of children, children’s and youth tourism during the summer vacations for 2016-2018 is being implemented. The joint order of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Internal Affairs approved an action plan for organizing the training of children in swimming for 2017-2019. The Ministry, within the framework of the Interagency Action Plan, monitors the information on the number of children covered by swimming lessons.
Reports on the situations in regions were delivered by Akims of Mangystau region E. Tugzhanov, Aktobe region – B. Saparbayev, Astana � A. Issekeshev, Almaty – Baybek and Deputy Akim of Akmola region – V. Krylov.
Following the consideration of the issue, Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev pointed the attention of Akims, Ministers of Internal Affairs, Healthcare to ensuring the safety of children. It is also necessary to strengthen public monitoring of the work of children’s camps, and to conduct constant outreach work among parents and teachers.
Overall control is assigned to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, E. Dossaev.
For reference: In Kazakhstan, 1104 backyard clubs will operate in the summer, covering 144 190 children (2017 – 1088, 150 864 children). By the end of the summer, 735 thousand, or 26% of schoolchildren will engage in sports and tourism.
453 work and recreation camps are expected to operate, covering 24 000 children; 451 school forestries covering 32 000 schoolchildren; 5365 seasonal work groups, covering 137 000 high school students. In general, 32%, or about one million schoolchildren (2017 – 951 thousand children, 35.5%) will be engaged in seasonal employment. During the summer period, 7 thousand summer schools of the Olympic reserve, leaders’ activists, language schools, debating clubs, more than 14 thousand hobby clubs, backyard clubs will operate; more than 19 thousand sporting, tourism, sightseeing and creative events will be organized.
