Dominican Republic Foreign Minister officially visits Kazakhstan for the first time
Kazakhstan and the Dominican Republic signed a Political Declaration.
The sides discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation. Today, as part of the historical visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic Mr. Vargas, we paid special attention to the prospects of developing our political, economic, trade, and investment relations. We also paid particular attention to cooperation in such an area as energy, in light of the forthcoming specialized exhibition EXPO, at which the Dominican Republic will be represented by its exposition within the framework of the pavilion of Latin American countries, � Minister of Foreign Affairs Kairat Abdrakhmanov said.
In turn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic Miguel Vargas called the meeting an important step for both countries in terms of deepening relations.
We managed to conclude a bilateral agreement aimed at work in various aspects. We are very happy to be here, we have a very wide program, very important for both countries. We want to deepen the political dialogue; an important element is the improvement of our potential and cooperation in trade and investments, � Mr. Vargas said.
Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and the Dominican Republic were established on June 7, 2011. According to Kazakhstan’s customs authorities, in 2016 the bilateral trade turnover amounted to 890.3 thousand USD, which is 1.5 times higher than in the previous period (in 2015 – 560.8 thousand USD, in 2014 – 560.4 thousand USD, in 2013 – 659.1 thousand USD).
For the first time in the history of bilateral relations, last year, exports from Kazakhstan to the Dominican Republic were recorded at 211.6 thousand USD, while in previous years only the Dominican Republic imported to Kazakhstan.
