Do Not Trust Odile, Siegfried!
P. Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake will conclude the III Silk Road International Festival. The Astana Opera soloist, winner of many international competitions Olzhas Tarlanov will debut as Prince Siegfried. Choreographers Honoured Workers of Kazakhstan Tursynbek Nurkaliyev and Galiya Buribayeva, Music Director and Conductor Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Aidar Abzhakhanov.
At the heart of Swan Lake is a widespread in the fairytale folklore story of a girl transformed into a bird by the power of an evil spell. In P. Tchaikovsky’s ballet, Prince Siegfried becomes Odette’s savior, but his infidelity, predetermined by fate, turns into an inevitable tragic guilt. Odile, strikingly similar to Odette, comes to the ball at the Prince’s castle. Rather than being shy and gentle, this Odette is alluring and treacherous. Breaking the oath of fidelity, Siegfried, in fact, remained faithful to Odette. After realizing his mistake, he proves his love in the fight with the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart.
I have been working hard on this role; watched world-class dancers perform the part of Siegfried. Each of them has a distinctive style, his own unique way of portraying this character. I would also like to bring something of my own to the role, so now I am rehearsing a lot, looking for the right way of solving the tasks set by our teachers. I would like to express my gratitude to my stage partner Aigerim Beketayeva, who has been helping me train in every possible way, as she has performed this wonderful production many times. We have already danced with Aigerim in the ballet Paquita during our tour in China. On November 25, we will perform together at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in Swan Lake. I would like to note that it is very exciting for me to dance in front of the Kazakhstani audience. Years later I am back in Astana, and I hope that I will be worthy to stand alongside the ballet dancers of the Astana Opera, its ballet company is very strong and promising, said Olzhas Tarlanov.
Let us remind that the soloist worked abroad for a long time. After graduating from the Seleznev Almaty Choreographic School he was invited to the Munich International Ballet School, where he studied for 2 years, then dancing for 7 years in the ballet company of the Bayerische Staatsoper (Munich, Germany).
A masterpiece of world choreography ballet Swan Lake will conclude the III Silk Road International Festival.
The festival was diverse, interesting, and life-affirming. Guest artists from around the world spoke about it very warmly, confirming its high international level. Singers, dancers, instrumentalists from Austria, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and other countries shared their experiences with Kazakhstani colleagues. These meetings have proven to be beneficial not only for the soloists, but also for our viewers, giving them the opportunity to compare, evaluate their skills, thus developing their own taste. In addition to the invited artists, the famous company of St. Petersburg Eifman Ballet with the production of Onegin visited the III Silk Road International Festival for the first time. Kazakhstani general public showed great interest in the guest company. Their opinions about the performance were expressed on the pages of magazines and newspapers. 19 142 people visited the festival, which became a true celebration of high art. It will return to us in a year, in the V anniversary theatrical season. Brilliant premieres are ahead of us, the closet one being L. Minkus’ ballet Don Quixote, said the Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, General Director of the Astana Opera Galym Akhmedyarov.
