On Thursday, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Khadzhiev held talks via video link with US Department of State Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West, ORIENT reported.

The diplomats discussed cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats to resolve the situation in Afghanistan. It was emphasized that Turkmenistan is actively involved in this work, putting forward constructive proposals and initiatives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the expediency of developing a consolidated approach to ensuring peace and security in Afghanistan and intensifying economic and humanitarian cooperation with this country was noted.

In October 2021, West replaced Zalmay Khalilzad, who was one of the main negotiators with the Taliban on the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, as US Special Representative for Afghanistan.
