Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport: Kazakhstan’s national games held at the EXPO-2017 are gaining international popularity
During today’s press conference in the Government press center, Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport Aktoty Raimkulova spoke about the results of the international Zhamby Atu (national sports game) tournament Altyn Zhebe.
Within the framework of EXPO-2017, the city of Astana has for the first time hosted the International Zhamby Atu tournament Altyn Zhebe at the Kazanat hippodrome. The tournament was attended by 19 athletes from 11 countries of the world, including Malaysia, Turkey, Poland, Germany, Romania, Qatar, Mongolia and China. Kazakhstan was represented by 5 athletes. The total prize fund was 4.5 million tenge.
According to the Deputy Minister, this game has garnered great interest among foreign athletes. First place was taken by the Romanian athlete Mihay Kuzmi. Second place fell to the Kazakh athlete Sarybay Aitbek, and third place was taken by another Kazakhstani, Aikoz Yeralkhan.
I would especially like to mention the team of cowboys from the USA. They came to the EXPO as tourists. And then they showed interest in our national games, in particular Zhamby Atu. They created their own team. Now they plan to participate in the next tournament, � A. Raimkulova said.
According to the Deputy Minister, the Zhamby Atu game is garnering international interest. Starting in 2013, the Association for the Development of National Games of the Turkic World is operating in Astana, which is engaged in the promotion of Zhamby Atu. It includes Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Hungary, and Kyrgyzstan.
According to A. Raimkulova, these competitions are primarily of a propagandizing and unifying nature.
