Deputy Foreign Minister invites African countries to OIC Summit on Science and Technology

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Akylbek Kamaldinov held a briefing for African countries ambassadors accredited in Moscow, which focused on the first OIC Summit on Science and Technology to be held on September 10-11, 2017, in Astana.

The speaker noted that it is one of the initiatives of the President N.Nazarbayev that found unconditional support of the OIC countries.

According to Deputy Minister, this important event is aimed at developing cooperation among the OIC member states in science, technology, innovation and modernization, including through active applying international best practices, which will lay the foundation for building a new strong Ummah.

A.Kamaldinov briefed on the progress in preparations jointly made with OIC General Secretariat.

The summit will be held on September 10-11, 2017, in Astana under the slogan Science, Technology, Innovation & Modernization. The timing is not coincidental. Astana will host these days the EXPO 2017 international specialized exhibition, which is aimed at facilitating a comprehensive technological development and strengthening economic potential of the Islamic Ummah. Heads of the OIC delegations will take part in the EXPO 2017 official closing ceremony, A.Kamaldinov said.

According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazakhstan Ambassadors to the OIC member states are concurrently appointed the Special Envoys of the Kazakh Government in order to transfer to the Heads of OIC country and government the personal invitations of the President of Kazakhstan.

African countries diplomats received handouts containing the appropriate Kazakh MFA note and copies of invitations and were asked to provide assistance to the abovementioned special envoys in personal delivering invitations to the OIC heads of country. Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the main documents of the country will be Final Communique and the Astana Declaration.

With an active support of the OIC General Secretariat, the draft final communique is under approval and will be considered at two expert meetings, in April, Jeddah, and September 7-8, 2017, in Astana, and at OIC Ministers in charge of Science and Technology, September 9, 2017, in Astana, A.Kamaldinov informed.

In his words, Kazakhstan as the summits main organizer incurs the costs of accommodation and transport for delegations on the format 1+5: Summit � 1+2, Ministerial Meeting � 1+1 and expert meeting in September, 2017, – 1 person.

All the necessary information regarding the organizational and protocol provisions of the summit will be available at the special website.
