Deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan visited the Astana International Financial Center


Deputies of the Senate of the Parliament, headed by Chairman Dariga Nazarbayeva, visited the Astana International Financial Center ( AIFC ).

AIFC manager Kairat Kelimbetov introduced senators to the activities of the Center, its bodies and organizations, and also announced the development of an updated AIFC Development Strategy that takes into account all current trends in the global financial market.

The AIFC was created in accordance with the 100 Steps Nation Plan, the five components of which are dedicated to the AIFC. At the moment, all five instructions are completed , or are at the stage of active implementation.

According to K. Kelimbetov, the goal of the AIFC is to contribute fully to strengthening the economy of Kazakhstan, for which the Center is entrusted with the fulfillment of a large volume of tasks related to the development of the local capital market and its integration with world markets, as well as increasing the investment attractiveness of Kazakhstan in the long term.

Senators met with representatives of the AIFC Court and the International Arbitration Center, AIFC Financial Services Regulatory Committee ( AFSA ), Astana International Exchange ( AIX ), Expat Center and Continuing Professional Development Bureau.

AIFC and IAC Court Registrar Christopher Campbell-Holt demonstrated to deputies of the Senate the capabilities of the eJustice system, launched in February 2019 and which allows resolving disputes online. He also said that as part of the educational program of the AIFC Court and the IAC, more than 500 Kazakhstanis were trained in the basics of English common law.

AIX Exchange has become an effective platform for implementing the program of privatization of state assets. The placement of NAC Kazatomprom JSC, which took place in 2018, was recognized as successful; in 2019, an additional block of shares was launched on AIX. At the moment, the listing is being developed by Kazakhtelecom JSC, Air Astana JSC and KazMunayGas JSC.

The key directions of the AIFC development – Islamic finance, financial technology, green finance were also presented to senators.

Following the visit to the AIFC, the Chairman of the Senate D. Nazarbayeva noted the need for wide dissemination of information on the activities of the International Financial Center “Astana” in both foreign and domestic markets. Dariga Nazarbayeva wished the AIFC staff success in their work: I wish you to become a large ship in the ocean of world finance.
