Dariga Nazarbayeva visited the Syrym border checkpoint on the Kazakh-Russian border, and also got acquainted with the environmental situation on the Zhayik river
Senate Chairman Dariga Nazarbayeva during a working trip to the West Kazakhstan region visited the Syrym border checkpoint on the Kazakh-Russian border, where she familiarized herself with the updated infrastructure of checkpoints.
According to border guards, an average of more than a thousand cars pass through this section per day. A few months ago, the throughput capabilities of the post could not cope with such a volume of transport: there were huge traffic jams, truckers carrying goods, sometimes for days they were forced to stand in line. At present, the infrastructure of the post has been completely updated; in addition to the existing two vehicle lanes, eight more lanes equipped for inspection were added. This allowed to solve the problem of traffic jams on this section of the Kazakh-Russian border.
Also, during a working trip to the West Kazakhstan region, the Senate Chairman also visited West Kazakhstan Engineering Company JSC in Uralsk and got acquainted with the environmental situation on the Zhaiyk River.
According to Kazhydromet, since 2017, water in the river has decreased by 30-40%. Locals say that in the last decade, the river does not overflow, even in the flood period. The Senate speaker was shown a measurement, where in some places the depth of the previously full-flowing river is only 50 cm.
