Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Jamaica discussed in Kingston
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, K. Zhigalov met up with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Jamaica Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, as well as with President of the Agency Jamaica Promotions Corporation Dayan Edwards.
During the negotiations the current state and priority directions of bilateral relations development between Kazakhstan and Jamaica, including areas of trade, investment and tourism were discussed.
K. Zhigalov informed the Jamaican side on the ongoing democratic reforms in the country, including the main provisions of the constitutional reforms aimed at redistribution of power branches of government, the key tasks of President’s Address to the nation “The Third Modernization of Kazakhstan: global competitiveness”, the National Plan “100 concrete steps” and initiatives of Kazakhstan in the international arena in the field of non-proliferation, disarmament and the dialogue of civilizations.
The sides paid special attention to the prospects of Jamaica’s participation in the International specialized exhibition “EXPO-2017” in Astana and the issues of bilateral cooperation in the UN Security Council, taking into account the election of Kazakhstan as Security Council non-permanent member in 2017-2018 years. Representatives of the Government of Jamaica expressed interest in participating in the “EXPO-2017”, pointing out that the country attaches great importance to the field of ecology and the development of renewable energy sources.
Successful cooperation in a multilateral format was also noted, in particular, within the framework of the Caribbean Community where Jamaica plays an important role, and Kazakhstan is the only Central Asian country accredited by the Secretariat of the Organization (2015).
