Border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held a meeting in the area of Bulak-Bashy and Tort-Kocho of Batken region, the press service of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.

As a result of the negotiations, the sides adopted the following agreements:

– to carry out the withdrawal of additional forces and means, that arrived as reinforcements, to the points of permanent deployment;

– to replace border guards on a bilateral basis;

– to dismantle engineering constructions;

– prohibit the sending of border patrols to the dominant heights.

Further, in the area of Tort-Kocho, a meeting was held between the head of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Batken region and the head of the department of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan for the Sughd region.

The meeting was also attended by the heads of the border outposts of the parties.

During the negotiations, the sides confirmed the need to fulfill the agreements reached, to prevent the escalation of the conflict and to resolve all emerging issues through negotiations.

The withdrawal of additional forces and means from the state border line will be controlled by the heads of the border outposts of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

As of 19:00, the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is characterized as relatively stable.

Earlier, the Tajik border guards invaded on the territory of Kyrgyzstan and opened fire on Kyrgyz servicemen by ignoring the legitimate demands of the Kyrgyz border guards to leave the territory of Kyrgyzstan.

An exchange of fire ensued between the border guards of the two countries, during which the Tajik side used mortars.

Two soldiers were injured in the incident.
