Bakytzhan Sagintayev meets with the President of the International Paralympic Committee, Andrew Parsons

Today in Ukimet Uyi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with the President of the International Paralympic Committee, Mr. Andrew Parsons.

The discussion covered issues of further development of Paralympic sports in the country and the world, as well as details of holding the World Championship in Para Powerlifting Astana-2019 this year in Kazakhstan. It was noted that this world-class large-scale social and sports project will give a new impetus to the development of Para Powerlifting in Kazakhstan.

As a competitive discipline, powerlifting includes three exercises: squats with a barbell on top of the shoulder blades, bench press lying on a horizontal bench, barbell pull, which together determine the qualification of the athlete. Para Powerlifting is a competition among athletes with disabilities.

On July 4, 2018, in Astana, with the participation of the Head of State, the first in Kazakhstan Paralympic training center was opened, located in the village of Karaotkel. This Center is aimed at high-quality and professional training of national teams and sports reserve in summer and winter Paralympic sports.

The World Championship in Para Powerlifting, which will be held in Astana from June 29 to July 6, is the final licensed competition before the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020. The competition will be attended by 400 athletes from 90 countries.
