Bakytzhan Sagintayev Meets with First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Zhang Gaoli
Today at Ukimet Uyi Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Zhang Gaoli.
The meeting discussed matters of interaction between the two countries in trade-economic, scientific-technical, financial, energy, cultural-humanitarian sectors, in the field of transit-transport and infrastructure interaction including planning of large joint projects and developing long-term programs.
Currently, Kazakhstan and China are actively implementing the Cooperation Plan on conjugation of the Kazakhstan National Economic Program Nurly Zhol and the Chinese initiative Silk Way Economic Belt. The Plan was signed on September 2, 2016, in Hangzhou following the results of negotiations between the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev and Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.
The meeting paid special attention to the prospects of cooperation in the field of agriculture, promoting export of Kazakhstani agricultural products to Chinese markets. It also reviewed issues of water relations, use and protection of transboundary rivers.
The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the PRC in 2016 amounted to 7.9 billion dollars, exports from Kazakhstan to China in 2016 amounted to 4.2 billion dollars, imports – 3.7 billion dollars.
Export from Kazakhstan to China in physical terms increased by 20.4% excluding oil and uranium.
China is one of Kazakhstan’s main investment partners. For the period from 2005 to February 1, 2017, the inflow of direct investment from China into the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 13.9 billion US dollars. Investments from Kazakhstan to China for the same period amounted to 519.7 million US dollars.
As of February 1, 2017, Kazakhstan registered 2 783 enterprises with the participation of Chinese capital.
The PRC is one of the first countries to have confirmed its participation in EXPO-2017 in Astana and the Chinese pavilion will become one of the largest at the exhibition. In addition, the year 2017 is declared the “Year of China’s Tourism in Kazakhstan” and our country expects a large influx of tourists from China.
