Today in the capital of Kazakhstan, on the eve of the Astana Economic Forum, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev addressed the participants of the High-level Discussion in the framework of the regional meeting of the IMF and the National Bank

Ladies and gentlemen!

First of all, I am glad to welcome all participants and organizers of the IMF regional meeting here at the site of the Astana Economic Forum!

This is the second event organized here in our capital.

The issues that we face today are modernization and strengthening of policies that will promote the development of our processes and reduce risks for all of us. These issues are very relevant for us all.

Kazakhstan is committed to deepening economic integration and is actively developing cooperation in the Eurasian space.

We view our participation in the Eurasian Economic Union as one of the key instruments for diversifying our economy.

Kazakhstan supports the development of the global Belt and Road initiative and is ready for full-fledged international cooperation within this project. To do this, we created a short and economically advantageous transport and logistics leg for entering the key world markets.

Since the end of 2015, Kazakhstan is an official member of the World Trade Organization. This is an opportunity for our country to transform itself from the leader of the Central Asian region into the largest participant of the global economic process.

Today, we are all united by one goal: promoting the sustainability of social-and-economic development of our region through increasing the competitiveness of countries, attracting investments, building up a modern export policy, and stimulating innovative entrepreneurial activities.

Kazakhstan is actively working in this direction.

We purposefully pursue a multi-vector and balanced foreign policy. We have launched the third wave of modernization of the country and economy. President Nursultan Nazarbayev defined new priorities and tasks. The modernization of basic industries, the development of mass entrepreneurship and productive employment, technological development, new quality of human capital, the creation of new institutions of innovative development are all priorities not only to enhance Kazakhstan’s global competitiveness, but also to promote regional integration.

The Government of Kazakhstan is ready to promote the dissemination of best practices and exchange of experience with the IMF, with the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia in all these areas.

Ladies and gentlemen!

The global technological transition taking place in the world leads to a great turbulence of world development, the emergence of new and complex challenges.

How much are our countries prepared for integration and cooperation in order to be an advanced part of the world, and not outsiders of world transformations? What opportunities of strengthening integration should we use, what risks to avoid? What is the vision of modern macroeconomic, financial and structural policies that meet the national interests of the states of the region?

I am sure that our discussions and our today’s dialogue will allow us to exchange opinions and find together the answers to the challenges facing us.

I wish all participants a constructive dialogue and success in your work!

Thank you for attention!
