by May 16, 2018 Health

Today in the run-up to the XI Astana Economic Forum, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with the Chairman of the Board of DP World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.

The discussion covered issues of cooperation with the company and implementation of joint investment projects in the field of modernization and development of the transport and logistics system, improving the management of Kazakhstan’s transport infrastructure, as well as integration of information systems used in Khorgos and Aktau for the integration of Kazakhstan terminals into the global logistics chain on 6 continents of the world. As is known, in order to develop the transit potential of our country as a logistics hub of the New Silk Road, as well as to increase the volume of transportation of fast moving consumer goods, a network of efficient transit transcontinental corridors and routes through Kazakhstan has been formed. The State Program for Infrastructure Development “Nurly Zhol is being implemented since 2015, within which roads are being reconstructed, railway lines are being built, western gates for cargo flows through sea ports are formed, airports are being modernized, the dry port in the southeast of the country is functioning successfully and the basis of Kazakhstan’s modern logistic system is being formed.

Dubai Port World’s advanced technologies and expertise are already being applied in the management of special economic zones Khorgos-East Gate and Aktau Seaport. Practical implementation of the agreements reached in March this year within the framework of the visit of the President of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev to the United Arab Emirates (selling up to 51% of the stake in JSC MC SEZ Khorgos-East Gate and 49% in FEZ Aktau Seaport) will allow Dubai Port World to expand the company’s presence in the Kazakhstan market.

As part of automating the SEZ Khorgos-East Gate, a unified information system “Nomad” was developed, which provided automation of business processes and reduced the time of examination procedures from 24 hours to 30 minutes.

The agreement signed with Dubai Trade envisages the integration of Nomad with the Port Community System, which unites international participants in the supply chain and is represented in 77 terminals in 6 continents of the world (ports, terminals, customers, shipping and shipping companies).

Recall that DP World is a strategic partner of Kazakhstan for many joint investment projects, including the SEZ Khorgos-East Gate and SEZ Aktau Seaport. Joint cooperation in the implementation of joint projects is due to the effective administration and management of the SEZ Khorgos-East Gate and SEZ Aktau Seaport, as well as their integration into the international logistics chain. This made it possible to apply advanced technologies of DP World in the field of transport logistics to the SEZ Khorgos-East Gate, as well as apply the experience of the successful operator of SEZ Jebel Ali in the activity of SEZ Aktau Seaport.

The company’s success is largely due to the activities of Mr. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem. In 30 years he has achieved international expansion of DP World, including the acquisition of P&O Group worth 6.85 billion dollars, resulting in the company acquiring the status of the leading global sea port operator.

For reference: DP World operates 78 terminals in 40 countries; Approximately 70 000 vessels a year are received; annual transshipment volume – 77 million TEU (2017); DP World is the operator of the port Jebel Ali (134 square km, 77 berths and dry ports); more than 7000 companies from 120 countries of the world operate in SEZ Jebel Ali.
