B. Sagintayev instructs to carry out outreach work in connection with the meningococcal infection situation
During today’s Government session chaired by Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, outside the planned agenda, Minister of Healthcare Yelzhan Birtanov delivered a report on the current situation with the spread of the meningococcal infection.
According to the Minister of Healthcare, in Kazakhstan, since the beginning of 2018, 593 people were registered in medical facilities with suspicion of meningococcal infection, of whom 213 have been hospitalized, and the diagnosis of meningococcal infection has been confirmed in 58 cases. 10 were discharged, 35 receive treatment.
To stabilize the sick rate, following measures are taken:
– The Ministry of Healthcare established a headquarters for the prevention of infectious diseases, which daily coordinates the stabilization measures and coordinates the measures taken.
– A comprehensive action plant to stabilize the incidence of meningococcal infection has been approved.
– 4136 contact persons were identified, a course of antibiotic prophylaxis was prescribed for all, 3438 persons have completed it, 698 continue;
– Mass events in the city of Almaty and the Almaty region, including in preschool institutions, are restricted until June 18, the opening of summer health camps is postponed.
Following the consideration of the issue, Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev outlined a number of open questions and gave specific instructions.
Firstly, it is instructed to ramp up outreach efforts with regards to the situation with meningococcal infection, so as not to create panic among the population.
Secondly, the Ministry of Healthcare and Akims need to ensure full transparency in the work of the headquarters established in the center and in the field.
Thirdly: the need for vaccination and high vaccine prices, which vary in the regions from 20 to 40 thousand tenge. It is necessary to resolve issues with price regulation promptly.
Fourthly, it is instructed to urgently provide medical care to all patients with suspected meningococcal infection and who applied regardless of their territorial belonging.
