B. Sagintayev holds a meeting of the National Commission on the translation of the Kazakh alphabet into Latin script

A regular meeting of the National Commission on the translation of the Kazakh alphabet into Latin script took place today in Ukimet Uyi under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev.

Within the framework of the meeting, the implementation of the Action Plan for the phased translation of the Kazakh alphabet into the Latin script until 2025 was considered, and further coordination of the development of spelling rules and the keyboard layout of the new alphabet was discussed.

The National Commission on the translation of the Kazakh alphabet into Latin script is a consultative and advisory body under the Government, the main goal and task of which is to prepare and approve proposals for translating the Kazakh alphabet into Latin script, coordinating and monitoring the quality of work performance.

Reports on the main directions of the work on the translation of the alphabet into the Latin alphabet were delivered by Ministers of Culture and Sport A. Mukhamediuly, Education and Science – Y. Sagadiyev, Information and Communication – D. Abayev.

A. Mukhamediuly noted that at present the working group involving linguists has developed a Spelling Framework of the Kazakh alphabet on the basis of Latin script.

To date, the schedule for the development of the spelling of the Kazakh language and the basic provisions of spelling rules has been prepared. In general, the language reform, important for our country, is carried out in accordance with the Action Plan for the phased transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin script until 2025, � A. Mukhamediuly said.

Y. Sagadiyev reported that to date, the A. Baitursynov Institute of Linguistics studied international principles and rules of terminology in Kazakh and Turkic languages and developed the criteria of national terminology.

The meeting was also addressed by Deputy Prime Minister E. Dossaev, Deputy of the Senate of the Parliament M. Bakhtiyarully, Deputy of the Majilis of the Parliament B. Mamrayev, Director of the Institute of Linguistics E. Kazhybek, Doctor of philological sciences, Professor, Head of the Abay Kazakh National University T. Ayapova, Executive Director of the Sh. Shayakhmetov National Scientific and Practical Center Til-Kazyna E. Tleshov and others.

There are four working groups under the National Commission:

The methodical working group under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan is engaged in teaching, research and its gradual introduction into the education system;

The terminological working group systemizes the terminological fund.

The spelling working group, under the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is developing the rules of orthography and orthoepy of the Kazakh language on the basis of Latin script.

The working group on technical and information support of the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Republic of Kazakhstan is working on adapting Latin script to IT and information space.
