Astana Process: Foreign Minister meets with heads of government and Syrian opposition

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov met with head of Syrian government delegation, Syrias Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari.

Kazakh Foreign Minister noted the importance of the upcoming meeting of Syrian government and armed opposition as an important step in the preparations for the next round of Geneva peace talks under UN auspices. Astanas efforts in alleviating the humanitarian situation in Syria and providing appropriate assistance to the Syrian people were emphasized. Kazakhstan and its President N.Nazarbayev intend to continue contributing to the international efforts aimed at strengthening the ceasefire and finding a political solution to inter-Syrian conflict.

The same day was held a meeting with Syrian opposition delegation where issues of upcoming talks in Astana were discussed.

Heads of the two delegations expressed gratitude to the leadership and people of Kazakhstan for contribution to the peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in Syria and the perfect conditions provided for the international meeting, and noted the mood for a meaningful nature of the upcoming talks.
