“Astana Is The City of People Strong in the Spirit” Program Is Being Implemented in the Capital under the Instruction of the Head of State
Astana City Branch of “Nur Otan” Party together with Astana Office of Employment, Labor and Social Protection has developed “Astana Is The City of People Strong in the Spirit” Program for Creation of Comfortable Environment for Persons with Disabilities for 2017-2018.
The program was presented in the central park involving participation of representatives of the capital’s branch of “Nur Otan” Party, the Mayor’s Office, city offices and representatives of associations of people with disabilities.
As of today, there are about 22 thousand people with disabilities living in Astana.
– The work is constantly carried out, not for the first year. Nevertheless, given the situation that we have in the city, we’ve gathered with all the associations of people with disabilities in the capital and set out a joint plan, since Astana is a city that is growing rapidly, and the President instructed to make it one of the comfortable cities, including for people with disabilities, – Asset Issekeshev summarized in his address to the audience.
The main objective of the program is to create conditions for self-fulfillment of persons with disabilities which will allow this category of people actively participating in the social life of the capital and in the city management.
The Mayor’s Office of Astana together with the capital’s prosecutor’s office developed a road map in February for providing access for persons with disabilities to infrastructure facilities in Astana. From April to July, every Tuesday, the Prosecutor’s Office has been holding meetings with representatives of the city offices, district mayor’s offices, where information about the work carried out has been announced.
The offices for transport and roads have taken measures to adapt the city’s road network. 1 061 signboards at 135 intersections with traffic lights, 84 light modules for pedestrians, 70 Disabled road signs have been installed.
25 bus shelters have been replaced to covered insulated bus shelters along with laying ground tactile plates. 36 stop areas for personal transport of persons with disabilities have been equipped. Works on the adaptation of the road transport network, namely the arrangement of exits on cycling tracks and sidewalks, are continued to be carried out.
Out of 1 025 buses, 609 have been equipped with folding devices (ramps) for easy boarding and drop-off for wheelchair users. In addition, works on the update of the rolling stock in the quantity of 380 buses are underway. A total of 900 drivers have been trained in the Center for the Transport Professionals Qualification to service passengers with disabilities.
Since the beginning of the year, based on the requests of citizens, unscheduled inspections have been carried out at 42 facilities, which resulted in fines in the amount of 453 800 tenge paid to the budget.
Issuances of passports to 705 facilities, as well as adaptation of 809 facilities, have been planned for this year.
In addition, since today, the assistant to the Mayor of the city on the activities with non-governmental organizations will start working at the Mayor’s Office of the capital. Murat Abdumomynov has been appointed to this position.
As noted by the mayor, the mayor’s office will be holding monthly meetings with associations from now on, during which issues that require prompt solutions will be reviewed.
