Astana Has Hosted the Children and Junior Chess Blitz Tournament
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan the grand opening of the children’s chess blitz tournament with the support of the Mayor’s Office of the capital has been held in Astana. The event has been organized by the capital’s Office of Physical Culture and Sports and the city’s chess schools.
The solemn opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Astana Asset Issekeshev, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the 12th World Champion Anatoliy Karpov, and many other well-known personalities from the world of chess.
According to the organizers, this is the first blitz tournament on the scale of the city, aimed at increasing children’s motivation. But the main objective of the event is to popularize chess in Kazakhstan, promote healthy lifestyles and improve sports skills. The chess match involves 90 children of six age categories of 8, 14 and 18 years.
The Mayor of Astana Asset Issekeshev has congratulated the participants on the occasion of the Day of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and expressed his gratitude to the guests and the legendary chess player Anatoliy Karpov for his personal participation in today’s event.
“We are celebrating this holiday in a special way, it’s our anniversary. I am very glad you have come, in spite of your busy schedule. I am confident that our children will become future world champions. Chess is an intellectual sport, and intelligence is something that Kazakhstan and any country needs to develop innovations”, – said Asset Issekeshev.
“Congratulations to all of you on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Independence; this is a serious development period for one generation. Over these years chess has been developing very well in Kazakhstan. There are world champions, we have now grand masters. It is surprising that chess has become popular among girls in Kazakhstan, and they have achieved great success. I am congratulating all of you and I wish you success and conquering new heights”, – the legendary chess player Anatoliy Karpov told journalists in the interview.
The event involved participation of the world champions Dinara Sadvakassova and Zhansaya Abdumalik. According to Zhansaya Abdumalik, being on the same site with the legendary chess players motivates children to win and brings a sense of patriotic spirit. On the sidelines of the tournament Zhansaya said that she is preparing for the World Championship to be held in Qatar and will make every effort to declare Kazakhstan on the world stage.
It should be noted that the tournament was held based on the FIDE rules according to the Swiss system of 11 rounds. The winners and prize-holders of the competitions in the overall standings and in the six age categories will be awarded with valuable prizes and diplomas.
