AIC becomes driver of economic growth in 2016

This is evidenced by the positive agricultural performance reported by the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Kairat Aituganov at the regular meeting of the Government.

The livestock industry marks an increased number of animals by an average of 1.3%. There is an increase in production of meat (by 3.5%), milk (by 3.1%) and eggs (by 0.1%). Gross grain harvest amounted to 23.7 million tons in bunker weight, which is 3.9 million tons higher than last year. The average yield is 15.4 c/ha. The volume harvested fully meets domestic demand and export potential at the level of 8.5-9 million tons, the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture said.

According to the speaker, Almaty, Zhambyl and South Kazakhstan regions harvested 2.5 million tons of vegetables, 1.7 million tons of melons and gourds, which exceeds last years figures by 439 thousand tons. South Kazakhstan and Almaty regions harvested 114 and 70 thousand tons of apples respectively.

The amount of cotton produced is 270 thousand tons, which is 3 times higher than last years, with the average yield of 24.6 c/ha. Gross harvest of rice amounts to 503 thousand tons with the yield of 53.6 c/ha. Kyzylorda region has harvested the record rice yield � almost 55 c/ha.

North Kazakhstan region has for the first time in the last 20 years sown sugar beet, 14 thousand tons have been harvested with the average yield of 350 c/ha, which is 15% higher than the average figure over the country.

The oilseeds gross harvest amounted to 2 million tons, which is 1.5 times higher than last year.

Over the period covered, the volume of food production increased by 3.8% and exceeded 1.2 trillion tenge. There is an increase in production of cereals (by 36%), sugar (by 49%), flour (by 13%), vegetable oil (by 14%), sausages and similar meat products (by 10%), K.Aituganov concluded.
