Today, on October 14, a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council was held in the videoconference mode, within the framework of which topical issues of the activities of the Eurasian Economic Union were discussed.

The meeting chaired by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, as well as the heads of the EAEU observer states – the President of the Republic Cuba Miguel Bermudez, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich.

In his speech, Sadyr Japarov noted that the Eurasian Economic Union is the most important regional integration association with an increasing potential for rapprochement between member states and ensuring sustainable development. Among other things, he called on his colleagues to take joint practical measures to harmonize the regulatory framework on the protection of the domestic market and import substitution to prevent possible shortages of food products and ensure complementarity.

He also stressed the need to jointly work out real instruments aimed at bringing economies closer together and creating balanced conditions for the development of the Union countries.

In addition, the President noted the increase in poverty caused by the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic due to falling incomes, unemployment and a significant gap between the economies of the Union member states.

“To solve this problem, we need a systematic and meaningful study of mechanisms and target programs for the development of catching-up economies of the member states, aimed at converging the incomes of the population and leveling our economies,” the Head of State emphasized.

Following the meeting, a number of draft acts were approved and a statement was adopted on economic cooperation between the EAEU member states within the framework of the climate agenda.
