A genomic study of measles pathogens revealed genetic strains of the B strain, such as Dublin and Kabul

To identify the causes of measles strains not typical for Kazakhstan, there were high-tech studies.

On January 24, we received the results of a genomic study of pathogens that circulate among patients in Kazakhstan. The study showed that these are the same strains D8 and B3 that circulate in the European continent. We went further. And then a more detailed study showed that the strain “B”, which circulates more in Kazakhstan – it has genetic lines, such as “Dublin” and “Kabul”. Of these, especially Kabul is very toxic. He caused an outbreak, it goes to Ukraine caused by the strain B3 “Kabul”. We identified these strains, said Gendarbek Bekshin, the head public health officer of the country, at the briefing in the CCS.

According to his information, these two strains Dublin and Kabul never circulated in Kazakhstan. We had a causative agent import during immigration processes, our citizens go on holiday in their trade affairs, etc., and as a result, the disease is confirmed, concluded Gendarbek Bekshin.
