7 UN organizations to participate in Expo 2017
It should be noted that Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC” Astana EXPO-2017 “Akhmetzhan Yessimov met with representatives of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headed by Director of the UNEP Regional Office for Europe, Jan Dusik and director of the subregional office for Central Asia Natalia Alexeeva.
A. Yessimov said that the theme of “Energy of the Future” exhibition is consonant with the issues dealt with by the UNEP – the protection of the environment, combating climate change, reducing emissions and addressing environmental issues.
“We are very pleased that the great interest in the exhibition comes from the international community. 17 international organizations will participate in the Expo, including seven UN agencies – UNIDO, UNESCO, IAEA, UNDP, ESCAP, UNICEF, the Sustainable Energy for All. All of them will be located in the plaza of international organizations. If you have an interest and desire, we will gladly give you a place,”A. Yessimov said.
According to J. Dusik, the choice of the theme of EXPO-2017 “Energy of the Future” is very timely in the context of the transition to sustainable energy. The organization has experience in promoting this theme at Expo 2015 in Milan. UNEP initiated a global protection Environment Day and held a competition for the most stable and green pavilion. Such activities can find a place at EXPO-2017 in Astana.
“At the same time, we are considering the possibility of long-term cooperation on the basis of the International Centre for green technologies and investment projects, the idea of which was announced by President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at the UN General Assembly. Thus, we hope to work together after the end of the exhibition,” J. Dusik concluded.
