Closed

Over the last years the Kazakh-Swedish relations have achieved a high level of development: regular mutual visits of governmental and parliamentary delegations take place between the countries, the solid bilateral contractual legal framework has been established, trade and economic and investment cooperation is developing dynamically.

The official visit of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to Sweden in 2004 became the important milestone towards expanding relations between the two countries. The visits of Ministers of Foreign affairs of Kazakhstan and Sweden in 2013 were also productive.

Sweden takes the second place among the countries of Northern Europe in terms of direct investments in Kazakhstan’s economy and trade turnover. This demonstrates the growing interest of Swedish companies to Kazakhstan and attempts of the Swedish government to encourage it. Thus, in 2015 the Sweden’s Export Promotion Strategy was adopted, which lists Kazakhstan as one of the priority markets for Swedish export products. A lot of attention is given to scientific and innovation cooperation.

It is symbolic that in the year of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations Kazakhstan and Sweden have started their non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2017-2018 and intend to enhance cooperation on all issues of the agenda.

Astana and Stockholm has fruitful interactions at the international level having shared views on many important issues of the world politics, global security and environmental protection. Given Sweden’s active foreign policy, Kazakhstan is committed to developing a dialogue with Sweden on topical issues of international politics.

The high level of Kazakh-Swedish collaboration reached over the quarter of a century opens new prospects for further strengthening of bilateral dialogue and business-to-business and people-to-people contacts.
