USAID provides medical equipment to support Kyrgyzstan’s COVID-19 response

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided state-of-the-art equipment to leading hospitals in the Kyrgyz Republic that will strengthen their capacity to diagnose COVID-19 and other communicable diseases and prevent their spread, U.S. Embassy in Bishkek reported.

This assistance is a part of USAID’s ongoing support to the country’s response to COVID-19 pandemic. Deputy Minister of Health Nuriyla Sherieva presided over today’s handover ceremony.

The National Hospital of the Kyrgyz Republic received a high-tech mobile video bronchoscope to more efficiently and effectively examine patients’ airways and lungs. The Chuy Oblast Hospital received a mobile x-ray machine to diagnose patients and ensure their safety and comfort. In addition, Osh City Hospital now has special disinfection chambers to sanitize bed sheets, and other belongings, which will contribute to controlling the spread of disease. The total value of the equipment is 15 million KGS ($190,000).

“This equipment will support the Kyrgyz Republic’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and contribute to strengthening the overall capacity of our country’s health system” said Deputy Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Nuriyla Sherieva.

Kaya Adams, USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Mission Director, noted “In addition to providing necessary technology, our programs also focus on equipping health care professionals with the right knowledge and skills. We continue to work with the Ministry of Health on training hundreds of doctors, nurses, and other personnel across the country”.

“Since the start of the coronavirus outbreak, USAID has provided more than $10 million to help the Kyrgyz Republic fight the pandemic. This includes $1.4 million in medical equipment to care for COVID-19 patients, such as oxygen concentrators and laboratory testing equipment. This equipment strengthens Kyrgyz capacity to identify and treat not only COVID-19, but a range of infectious diseases”.

This assistance is provided under USAID’s Local Health Systems Strengthening program.

Kyrgyz Health Ministry plans to reduce number of rodents and insects to reduce diseases transmitted through bites

Acting Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Zharkynbek Kasymbekov signed an order to establish a working group to develop a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers “On reducing the number of rodents and insects in the country.”

According to the document, despite the ongoing measures for deratization (from rodents) and disinsection (from insects) in the republic, registration of cases of bites by rodents and insects continues, in which diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis, plague, rabies, echinococcosis, etc. can be transmitted. To maintain epidemiological well-being in the country, it is necessary to carry out preventive measures. In this connection, in order to organize these activities to combat rodents and insects, it is necessary to develop a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Kazakhstan observes 3.3% economic growth rate in H1 2022

Minister of National Economy Alibek Kuantyrov reported about H1 2022 economic indicators at the Government’s weekly sitting today, Kazinform reports.

According to him, Kazakhstan’s economic growth rate in January-July 2022 amounted to 3.3%. The Ministry observes positive trade balance and high growth in real and services sectors in the reporting period. Growth in the real sector amounted to 3.4%, business activity in the services sector accelerated to 2.5%, he said.

Positive growth is observed in construction, information and communication, trade, transport and warehousing, manufacturing, agriculture and mining sectors.

Growth of investments in fixed assets accelerated to 4.5%.

Investments in public administration and social security rose by 99.2%, in education – by 75%, in trade and healthcare – by 26%, in real estate operations – by 20%, and in construction – by 14.8%.

Opening of exhibition showrooms in Bishkek and Tehran discussed in Iran

Exhibition showrooms may be opened in Bishkek and Tehran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic said.

The opportunity to open showrooms was discussed in Tehran between Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Iran Turdakun Sydykov and Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade – Head of the Trade Development Organization of Iran Alireza Peimanpak.

During the event, the dynamics of the development of trade and economic cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Iran, as well as preparations for the exhibition events and business forums scheduled for September 2022 in Bishkek and Osh with the participation of officials and private entrepreneurs from Iran were discussed.

In addition, the sides discussed the possibility of mutual opening of permanent exhibition showrooms in Bishkek and Tehran, demonstrating the export potential of the two countries, the ministry said.

The sides also stressed the need for appropriate preparations for the next meeting of the joint Kyrgyz-Iranian commission on trade and economic cooperation, which will be held in Bishkek.

Islamic Games. Kyrgyzstan gains 7th gold medal

Kyrgyz athlete Roman Petrov won the gold medal of the Islamic Solidarity Games.

Petrov competed in a fencing tournament in epee competitions.

In the final, he won an athlete from Azerbaijan with a score of 15:11.

Note that this is the 20th medal for Kyrgyzstan: 7 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze.

Kyrgyzstan takes part in Army Games-2022 in Russia

The opening ceremony of the International Army Games-2022 was held on Aug. 15, 2022, on the territory of the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Center of Russia, the Ministry of Defense of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The event was attended by Minister of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic, Lieutenant General Baktybek Bekbolotov, Minister of Defense of Russia, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, as well as representatives of the defense departments of the states participating in the Games-2022 competitions.

On the eve of the opening of the Games, Kyrgyz tankers made their race on green tanks, who were opposed by the permanent winners of tank competitions – the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Belarus, traditionally performing in the 1st division.

Also, during the opening of Army Games 2022, Lieutenant General Bekbolotov met with the national team of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic, wished them high achievements, good luck and victories in the competition.

The international competition “Tank Biathlon-2022” is held from August 15 to 27 this year. The stages of the competition include an individual race, a semi-final and a relay stage final. Tournament participants will be judged on their ability to navigate the battlefield, tank control, shooting accuracy and fire control skills.

Foreign minister of Kyrgyzstan to pay official visit to Turkiye

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev will pay an official visit to Turkiye on Aug. 16-17.

Within the framework of the visit, negotiations between the foreign ministers of the two countries and the 5th meeting of the Joint Strategic Planning Group will be held, during which issues relevant to the Kyrgyz-Turkish relations aimed at further developing and strengthening multifaceted cooperation in the political, trade and economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres will be discussed, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.

In addition, a number of high-level meetings and an exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest are planned.
