11K infrastructure facilities in Kazakhstan adapted to needs of disabled

“In the period from 2012 to 2016 Kazakhstan carried out certification of 27.8 thousand social and transport infrastructure for accessibility for disabled people, including 17.5 thousand objects to be adaptable. Of these, 11 212 facilities were adapted”, S. Zhakupova explained.

The Vice Minister reminded that in 2015 Kazakhstan ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and adopted a commitment to implement the international standards concerning persons with disabilities. To implement the provisions of the Convention the Law of Kazakhstan “On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of Kazakhstan on the issues of protection of the rights of persons with disabilities” was adopted in the same year, which amended 24 pieces of legislation, including 3 Codes.

“The main purpose of the amendments is the creation of conditions for free movement of disabled persons and other people with limited mobility”, S. Zhakupova said.
