The delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov and the delegation of Afghanistan, headed by Acting Deputy Head of the Interim Government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Abdul Salam Hanafi, discussed the priority areas of Uzbek-Afghan cooperation on October 16 in the city of Termez.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said that the agenda of the meeting included issues of trade and economic interaction, ensuring border security, cooperation in the field of energy, international cargo transportation and transit. They also exchanged views on the development of ties in education and the humanitarian field.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of infrastructure projects, in particular the laying of the Surkhan – Puli-Khumri power line and the construction of the Termez – Mazar – Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar railway.
On October 7, following talks between Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and Foreign Minister of the interim government of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaki in Kabul, an agreement was reached to hold this meeting.
