BAKU: The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is ready to integrate biomethane into pipeline, Luca Schieppati, TAP’s Managing Director, said at the Italian Energy Summit, Trend reports.
‘We are testing the materials of the pipes to verify their resistance to the transport of hydrogen. Furthermore, we are evaluating the compatibility of equipment and systems for the transport of hydrogen in a mixture. As for biomethane, we are ready to welcome it into our pipeline and we aim to accompany and promote the development of its regulation,’ he said.
Schieppati noted that as part of the Carbon Management Plan (2022-2025), TAP has already reduced its CO2 emissions by 30 percent, methane by 53 percent and fugitive emissions by 70 percent.
TAP transports natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 877 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before com
ing ashore in Southern Italy.
TAP facilitates gas supplies to Southeastern European countries through existing and prospective interconnectors. TAP is connected to Interconnector Greece Bulgaria (IGB) which started its commercial operations in October 2022, providing Caspian gas to Bulgaria.
TAP’s shareholding is comprised of bp (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam (20%), Fluxys (20%), Enagás (20%).
