President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov congratulated Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on the UN Day, which is celebrated annually on Oct. 24.

“I am confident that your many years of experience in managing international organizations and your leadership qualities at an international level will make a significant contribution to the future work of the Organization.

The Kyrgyz Republic recognizes the UN as an authoritative and universal international organization, which has become the center for solving major international problems. On this basis, I raised a number of important international initiatives on behalf of the Kyrgyz Republic in the general debate of the 76th session of the Organization. The most important of them are the holding of the UN-Central Asia Summit in 2022 and the adoption of a five-year plan for the development of mountain regions.

I count on your personal support for these initiatives and your participation in this Summit.

During the general debate, I also touched upon the problem of climate change and came up with an initiative to adopt a special program for the preservation of mountain forests under the auspices of the UN and the creation of a special fund to support mountain countries in the fight against global warming.

I would like to dwell on this issue in more detail at the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. I propose to meet next month in Glasgow to discuss these and other global issues,” the president’s congratulatory message says.

Sadyr Zhaparov wished UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres good health and prosperity, success in his responsible work.
