With the joint organization the Center for the Analysis of International Relations and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) of Great Britain and with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, a round table on ‘COP29: Climate change, peace and security’ was held in London, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Great Britain told APA.
The event was attended by high-ranking guests from both countries, regional experts, and representatives of the public and private sectors.
The President of COP26, Alok Sharma, who gave an opening speech at the event, spoke about the importance of COP29 to be held in Azerbaijan for the future of humanity. He emphasized that the achievements to be made at COP29 will be the success of not only Azerbaijan but the whole world. A. Speaking at the event, Elshad Iskandarov, Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Senior Adviser to the COP29 Presidency Negotiating Team, emphasized the importance of the upcoming summit from a regional and global point of view.
Neil Melvin, director of international security of RUSI, in his speech, talked about the positive changes taking place in the South Caucasus region and emphasized that COP29 is an important event both in terms of climate and the general development of the region, and wished Azerbaijan success.
The former ambassador of Great Britain to Azerbaijan, James Sharp, talked about the cooperation that promoted the energy transition of Britain in Azerbaijan during his diplomatic tenure in Azerbaijan and emphasized that he highly appreciates Azerbaijan’s efforts to contribute to climate action at the international level.
