In order to create food reserves, KGS 1.5 billion were allocated from the republican budget for the purchase of wheat, more than KGS 300 million for the purchase of vegetable oil and sugar, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Ulukbek Maripov said during a meeting on Friday.
He added that it was decided to exempt imports of grain and flour from VAT for 1 year, an agreement was signed on duty-free import of white sugar and sugar cane from third countries.
“Until Dec. 31, 2021, import of agricultural animals is exempt from VAT. In addition, a ban is introduced on the export of certain types of agricultural goods (wheat, rice, wheat flour, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, chicken eggs). Talks are underway with Russia to increase the volume of motor gasoline supplied free of export duty. Duty-free diesel fuel is supplied in sufficient quantities,” Maripov said.
The head of the Cabinet noted that the work in these areas is carried out comprehensively, the state bodies are monitoring the current situation.
“Increase in food prices is observed all over the world, we, as a republic dependent on imports, feel every price fluctuation in neighboring countries. At the moment food stocks are sufficient, the food security situation is under control”, Ukukbek Maripov said.
