The Committee on Social Issues, Education, Science, Culture and Health of the Jogorku Kenesh considered and approved the draft law “On Amendments to Some Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic (Laws “On Advertising”, “On Catering for Students in General Education Organizations”).

One of the initiators of the draft law, deputy Yevgenia Strokova noted that the draft law was prepared in order to create conditions for the realization of children’s rights to healthy food and to limit the marketing of unhealthy food products with a high content of salt, sugar and fat.

The initiators also stressed that the consumption of salt in Kyrgyzstan is one of the highest in the world. In particular, salt is used 2.5 times more than the established recommendation of the World Health Organization.

In this connection the deputies proposed to limit advertising of food products with a high content of sugar, salt and fat in buildings of health and education organizations, gyms and facilities, stadiums and adjacent places within a radius of 100 meters.
