During a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent State (CIS) held Friday via videoconference, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov called on the international community to provide all-round and food support to the multinational people of Afghanistan.

“The situation in the world is changing rapidly. The realities of today dictate the need to consolidate efforts for a timely response to emerging challenges and threats.

The presence of such destabilizing factors as international terrorism, extremism, illegal migration and cross-border crime, as well as the further aggravation of socio-economic and food crises could lead to a real humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan. This, in turn, could ignite a civil war in this country, which would cause tension and destabilize the situation in Central Asia and the Middle East as well,” he said.

The Kyrgyz leader called for the adoption of joint effective measures to neutralize these challenges and threats.

Zhaparov suggested considering sending humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan under the auspices of the CIS and expressed confidence that such an action would serve to strengthen the authority of the Commonwealth in the international arena and help restore stability in this country.
