The 6th meeting of the Council of Heads of Penitentiary Services of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held on Friday in Kyrgyzstan’s Cholpon-Ata town.

The event was held with the support of the OSCE.

Head of the Criminal Execution Service of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia Sergey Atomyan, Director of the Federal Service for the Execution of Punishments of Russia Alexander Kalashnikov, Head of the Department of Execution of Punishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus Oleg Matkin, Deputy Head of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Sentences of the Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan Furkat Akbarov, Chairman of the Penitentiary System Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Zhanat Eshmagambetov, Head of the Department for the Execution of Punishment under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan Rustam Tursunov and Chairman of the State Service for the Execution of Punishments under the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic Askat Egemberdiev took part in the meeting

According to the agenda, the Council heard information about the experience of the State Penitentiary Service under the Ministry of Justice of Kyrgyzstan in the penitentiary sphere, exchanged information on the situation in the CIS member states in the penitentiary sphere and discussed many other issues.

During the meeting, the members of the Council noted positive results, identified problematic issues and main areas of interaction.

The participants of the meeting stated that the VI meeting of the Council was held in a spirit of mutual understanding, trust and constructive dialogue.

The Council of Heads of Penitentiary Services is the body of sectoral cooperation of the CIS and is designed to ensure coordination of interaction of the penitentiary services in the exercise of their functions for the execution and serving of criminal sentences and other measures of criminal responsibility.
