Children of Ukrainian Citizen Residing in Azerbaijan Reunited After Stay in Danish Children’s Home


Baku: The minor children of a Ukrainian citizen temporarily residing in Azerbaijan, who had been placed in a children’s home in Denmark, have been successfully returned to their family. This development was highlighted in the 2024 report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was discussed at a meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the case involved a Ukrainian citizen, identified as M., who is temporarily residing in Azerbaijan. M. had appealed to the Ombudsman, seeking assistance in facilitating the return of her minor children who were placed in a Danish children’s home due to a violation of rights. The Ombudsman’s office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Housing, and Senior Citizens, intervened to ensure the children’s return to Azerbaijan.



The successful reunification of the family underscores the effectiveness of international cooperation and the commitment of the Azerbaijani authorities to uphold human rights. The incident also highlights the role of the Ombudsman in advocating for individuals’ rights and facilitating diplomatic efforts to resolve complex cross-border issues.
